Wisdom tooth removal!

It is one of the best treatments to get relief from the pain and discomfort caused by the tooth interrupting the rest of the teeth. But, simply getting tooth removal doesn’t end the job there as a lot of care is required even after the treatment. Patients getting such treatment need to know about so many things so that they understand what’s normal after tooth removal and what is actually a cause for concern. So here in this article, the experts have highlighted the major things a patient might experience after wisdom teeth removal. Here they are…

What to Expect After Wisdom Teeth Removal?

#1 — Bleeding

This is one of the common things a patient will definitely experience after having wisdom teeth removed. However, a blood clot must form so that the healing process begins. In case, the bleeding becomes excessive, cover the area with an ice pack for some time to stop the bleeding. Bleeding can also be minimized by reducing other activities including walking, exercising etc.

#2 — Discoloration

A patient can also experience discolouration of the skin outside the area where extraction is done. So, there is no cause for worry if you notice a slightly yellow or blackish area between two to three days after the surgery. Simply keep on taking the medications prescribed by your dentist.

#3 — Swelling

After the wisdom teeth removal, the area near the mouth, cheeks, and eyes might swell after the second or third day of the surgery. To reduce this, the best way is to apply an ice pack all over the area of the extraction every 20 minutes. Do not put the pack directly on the face; wrap it in a soft cloth and then apply. The next day after the surgery, you can go for a warm moist cloth to reduce swelling.

#4 — Stiff Jaw

A stiff jaw is the normal part of the recovery after tooth removal. A patient will face some difficulty while opening up the mouth as the jaws become quite stiff. In such a situation, it is better to apply warm, moist heat as it will relax the stiff muscles and help them get relaxed faster.

#5 — Numbness

A little numbness near your lips, chin, and tongue is normal instantly after the wisdom tooth removal. So, it is better not to eat anything until the anaesthesia wears off, otherwise, you’ll end up biting your lips or tongue. Till then you can enjoy drinking your favourite juice, cold coffee or anything.

The healing process after wisdom teeth removal looks different for everyone, it might be possible you’ll experience all of these symptoms or only a few of them. Knowing all of these things before getting treatment will help you get well-prepared mentally and you’ll ultimately recover faster without worrying. Simply follow the best oral healthcare routine both before and after the surgery so that no germs and bacteria get developed and you will recover faster.
